Bulgogi flavoured Mince

This is a quick weeknight recipe that has the flavours of Bulgogi, but without the planning ahead and remembering to actually marinade stuff.

And using cheap beef mince instead of finely sliced steak.

The sauce paste is based on the Bulgogi marinade from Our Korean Kitchen.

  • 1 ripe Apple or 2 ripe Pears.
  • 4 cloves of Garlic.
  • a chunk of fresh Ginger.
  • an Onion.
  • 2-3 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp Honey
  • 1-2 tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • a splash of Vegetable Oil
  • 500g Beef Mince

Quarter the apple (or pears), remove the core, and cut into chunks.
Peel the garlic and cut the cloves in half.
Peel the ginger and slice thickly.
Peel the onion and slice.
Put the apple (or pear), garlic, ginger and half of the onion into a jug.
Add the soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil to the jug.
Attack the contents of the jug with a hand blender until it becomes a smooth paste.
Season the paste with black pepper to taste.

Put the oil into a sauce pan and brown the mince and the rest of the onions.
Once the mince is well browned, scrape in the paste.
Turn the heat up high and stir and cook for about 5 mins until the sauce smells cooked.
Now turn down the heat to low, pop a lid on the pan, and allow it to stew until the mince is ready.

Serve over boiled rice, with steamed veggies and some kimchi.
